O'Grady

Senior Energy Engineer

John brings more than 30 years of multi-disciplinary experience in engineering, finance and securities trading to MD Energy Advisors. His expertise includes extensive custom program analysis across all energy disciplines including LED’s, lighting controls, HVAC systems, boiler equipment, industrial process equipment and steam pipe heat transfer analysis. Throughout his multi-faceted career, he has led projects across the United States, in energy, project finance, and design engineering, including locations in Texas, North Dakota, New Mexico, New York and New Jersey.

In his role with MDEA, he works with utilities, Fortune 500 global corporations, as well as a variety of industry, and government organizations on sponsored programs that encourage energy efficiency in commercial, industrial, school and government buildings. John began his career at GE Aircraft Engines as a Metallurgical Engineer, resolving and analyzing critical field issues related to engine failures of commercial and military customers. He went on to utilize his M.B.A. by joining Merrill Lynch & Company and later a capital investment firm where he specialized in real estate and construction investment, analysis and marketing. John has worked in the Energy Sector since 2017. Prior to joining MDEA he was a Senior Energy Engineer at DNV Engineering, leading several projects, including two of the largest incentives ever awarded under the PSEG Energy Saver Program at the firm.

John earned an M.B.A. in Finance, Expertise in Financial Derivative Modeling from The Anderson School of Management at UCLA, an M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering and a B.S. in Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is an FAA licensed private pilot, active painter, mechanic, and marathon runner, having competed in the 1994 and 2001 Boston Marathons. He also codes and speaks conversational Spanish.
